I’m a black British woman adopted by my Mum and Dad Stuart and Brenda when I was two years old. I have lived in Cambridge, UK ever since. Dad’s career involved lots of international travel so he is a veteran Road Warrior. My brother Mark’s career also involves a lot of travel so he is another Road Warrior. Thanks to them, we discovered the power of Frequent Traveller schemes to make travel more comfortable and less expensive. So I think of myself as an Apprentice Road Warrior. I like taking photos and writing up our trips, and thought this site would be a good way to share with others.
Our first international trip was a home exchange in San Francisco, California, where me and my brothers Mark and Jamie enjoyed getting flowers in our hair. This was before the days of AirBnB, although Dad and I did get to visit their headquarters on a later visit to San Francisco.
I mostly travel with my Dad, and we try and fit in two long haul trips a year – most recently to Australia this Spring, when we stopped off in Singapore on the way home to visit family.
But there is also a lot to do that’s not so far away. Cambridge itself is a wonderful mixture of Ancient & Modern, and Dad was lucky enough to get his degree from Jesus College Cambridge. And the UK has plenty to see – from the beaches of the South Coast, to the castles and grandeur of Edinburgh Scotland. During the Covid-19 pandemic we had a couple of years discovering our home country while international travel wasn’t practical.
